Spartans Dance Program
Trinity Western University
During his time as an undergraduate student Mario co-founded and directed Agape in 2018. In 2019 Agape competed at The Academy Dance Competition, making history as the first team from western Canada to participate in Ontario’s university street dance choreography competition circuit. That same year Mario was hired to lead the Spartans Dance Program. Within the program there were two teams: Agape (beginner-intermediate level) and Spartans (Competitive - Intermediate). As head of the program; he was the coach, choreographer, and artistic director. Mario created a syllabus emphasizing artistic development and student-life balance for the dancers within the program. The Spartans Dance Program ran from 2019-2020.
School Performances
Being involved with the school community was an important part of the team’s overall brand. In the 2019/2020 school year, the team embarked on a massive tour, which included guest performing for many of the top high-school dance competitions in Vancouver’s lower mainland. So having the opportunity to showcase in the school’s athletic games was one of the ways the student dancers were able to create a sense of unity with their university community.
